Natty Gray’s interest in clothes and textiles extends far beyond a mere interest in fashion-forwardness or a desire to be perceived. According to Gray, clothes and textiles are a means of “manifesting the audible in the physical realm”, a way of actualizing his theoretics and bringing the intangible in to the tangible, a materialization of his passions, a palpable result stemming from the influence of sound in his life. Quite literally wearing his practice on his sleeve, Gray weaves literal and metaphorical patchwork narratives relating to music, video, and photography in to singular cohesive pieces, capsules, and lines in order to bring unison to all corners and facets of his work. From full blown collections and brand merchandizing to personalized commissions and one-of-ones, his approach is distinctly DIY, employing hand and machine sewing, screen printing, dyeing, and digital printing techniques.
